in both cases, from a floppy disk. I am sure this problem is a setting
becouse other computers running office 2000 do not have this problem. This
is a new computer with a fresh copy of windows xp home like the other
computers and a fresh copy of office 2000.

If the name of the picture is enclosed in { }, press Alt+F9 to toggle off

Don't work with a document on a floppy disk, under any circumstances! This
is not related to your immediate problem, but opening a document on a floppy
will corrupt the document and likely the floppy also.

Or do you mean you are selecting the file name in Windows Explorer? -- if
so, make sure you don't have a rectangle around the file name when you make
the copy: if you select a filename then click a second time (ie slower than
a double-click) you are editing the filename itself. So if you then copy,
it's the file *name* you copy, not the file.
