Why Do I Lose Attendees Names on Recur. Meeting?

Quite often if I go to send an update or cancel the next upcoming meeting in
a recurring weekly meeting, all of the attendees (except for myself) have
vanished from this next meeting (only). Somehow this next meeting has
separated itself from the rest of the recurrences (which still show all of
the attendees) and become its own single meeting with me as the only
attendee. And, conistent with this, it pops right up when I double click on
it - rather than asking me if I want to open this occurrence or all.

What's going on? Is there a setting that does this so that you can't make
changes once you get within X days or hours of the next meeting?

Help/enlightenment would be appreciated.
