Why do MS Project custom views revert to default

D

Dredman

Recently, whenever I launch MS Project Professional 2003, my custom views
revert in part to default. This includes both Gantt and Network views. Custom
filters for the Gantt chart are not persistent. Custom rearrangement (manual
repositioning of boxes) of the Network Diagram reverts to the default
arrangement. Although we are in the initial stages of implementation, custom
views were persistent until the last couple of weeks. We are using Novell
Network with pass-through authentication to Active Directory. Does anybody
have a suggestion??

Hi,

Are you connected to project Server? If it's the case, it's because you
are using views defined in the enterprise global. Those views can be
changed using Option / Enterprise Options / Open Enterprise Global.
Then you can change the views and those views ill be the same for each
project manager.

Hope this help

Hugues,

Thanks for the prompt response. Yes I am connecting to the server; but, the
issues is that I can't maintain persistence within a project file, especially
when I manually adjust the Network Diagram. When I dress it up for printing
purposes, it looks great. Then when I close MS Project and then go back into
it, all of my positioning is redone so that it looks like the default when
you first create a file using the automatic positioning feature. I've been
using MS Project server for several years and this is the first time I've run
into this. Any other ideas??

Regards,

Don

If you want a View to persist you need to create a new local copy via View,
More Views. Having standard views across all projects is one of Project
Server's benefits. I would create a local copy of the Network diagram called
Network Diagram - Local.

Rod,

Thanks for the help. I did do exactly that late yesterday and was
successful, but only after I had deleted a custom Network Diagram view in the
Global file. I'm not sure, actually I don't have any idea, of the connection,
but that fixed my particular problem. This is new to me since I have not had
this problem in the past with customizing the default Network Diagram view.
Now, my new problem is that I am teaching others how to use this tool and
will need to add into the curriculum the method for creating a local custom
view. Thanks again.
