Why do my Docs become Read-Only during editing?

This happens quite often:

I'm editing a file I made, I save it, do a bit more editing, try to save it
again and it tells me the file is read only. I click cancel and then the
toolbar name suddenly adds the "(read only) bit.

This happens randomly, sometimes it wont happen for days, then will happen
several times a session. Sometimes if I've saved it many times in the same
session, sometimes it happens on the first save.

It can be very frustrating, and I'm surprised MS Updates haven't fixed this
yet.

I am having the same issue with Word 2003 running on XP Pro.

This is usually an incompatible third party add-in. Try disabling all your
add-ins and testing to see if that eliminates the problem.
