Why do my Outlook Favourites Keep Disappearing???

Hi,

Really like Outlook Favourites (using Outlook 2003), but all too often my
nicely organised lists disappear and I have to go back to reconfigure\add
them again - nightmare !!!

1. Why does this keep happening? Is this caused by Outlook not shutting down
properly?

2. Is there anyway I can backup and restore Outlook Favourites (links all
point to pst folders, not URLs)?

Any help appreciated on this one !!!

Thanks...

Check if you all the IE favourites saved because that way we'll know if its
problem with Outlook or IE

No problems with IE Favourites, they are saving as normal.
Don't have anything fancy saved in my Outlook Favourites just Outlook
folders & Outlook Search folder links.

Thanks...

Hi,
Search for outcmd.dat, extend.dat, frmcache.dat, views.dat and rename the
files to OLD make sure outlook is closed and when you search for this files
also check the "hidden files and folders" option.
Hope this Helps you.

Why send the user on a wild goose chase? None of those files have anything to do with the Outlook navigation pane. Views.dat isn't even used in Outlook 2003 at all. The navigation pane settings for Outlook 2003, including Favorite Folders, are stored in a file associated with the mail profile -- profile_name.xml. It's a bit on the fragile side. If it corrupts often, it might be worth starting fresh by starting Outlook once with the /resetnavpane command-line switch.
