Why do my pictures keep disappearing in my Word documents?

I've just upgraded to MS Office. When I insert pictures & graphics into Word
docs, they are invisible, although they are still there in the document. I
need to visibly see them, not just placeholders. I can make them temporarily
visible again if I right click on the pic and select "Order-->Bring to
Front". But as soon as I switch to another program then come back to the Word
doc, the picture(s) are invisible again.
Can anyone help?

Try reducing the hardware acceleration setting in Start | Control
Panel | Display | Advanced | Troubleshooting. If this fixes the
problem, then you might check the website of the manufacturer of
your graphics adapter to see if an updated graphics driver available.
