Seriously, many users didn't understand styles, so they would apply
direct formatting to characters/words within paragraph styles. So
clarify the issue, MS enhanced the character styles to automatically
display when direct formatting is applied. So what that means is that
you now have a character style that is based on another character
style that is based on the default character style!
If you were to create a new character style or modify a previous one,
you'd get rid of those. However, they're nothing more than an pain to
view...but they are providing you info once you learn to understand
them. But learning how to use char styles better will help you clean
that up. If you don't, just literally learn to ignore them.
