why do read receipts get stuck in message store

T

T5

Outlook 2003.

Whenever somebody asks for a read receipt and I click yes, the read receipt
gets stuck in the message store and as a result I cannot send mail. I have
to use a program called Outlookspy to release the read receipt from the
message store. Is there a fix for this?

Stuck read receipts will not prevent you from sending new mails.
What mail account type are you using?
Do you have multiple accounts configured in Outlook?

That should be fine then. If you are running a virus scanner that integrates
with Outlook disable this integration and see if they go correctly now.

Thanks all, I do have Norton virus scanner and I have disabled it, so what
do I do now for e mail protection?

Nothing. Default Outlook security settings and the on-access virus scanner
is sufficient. Integration is redundant and a pain as you noticed.

Regardless, if you still can't get the receipt to send, Microsoft has a
utility you can use to delete it:
