why do so many emails have categories

Many emails arrive in the inbox with a categories attached - usually blue.
They are then appearing in my To Do list - even i don't want them here. It's
making the To Do list unusable. How do you stop emails dropping into the To
Do list inappropriately because they have somehow been assigned a category

That's because many people use categories, and Outlook can send it with the
email. As you're using OL07, there's a rule deleting categories from
incoming messages by default. If you had turned it off, just turn it on
again, or create a new one.
