Why do the lines in my logo look all jagged on my web page?

M

Mike

I made a logo in Corel Draw, in Publisher, and in word. No matter what I do,
when I put in on my web page the edges of the lines get all jagged instead od
being nice clean & straight. How can I make them look like they do in the
original document?

hard to say without seeing it.
of the three programs you named, Draw would be your best bet to create a
logo in.

Did it in Draw and it looks great on the document. Once it's in the web page
though the edges become all rough. Is it a problem with reducing the size?

Yes
You need to create the correct size image in a graphics program
(and not resize it in FP or the browser)
- even then resizing images to smaller sizes will often create dither effects that will cause them to look "fuzzy"

How do I do that? I created it on a letter sized page layout and it is only
about 2 inches by 5 inches in size on the page. When I insert it into a cell
in a web page it inserts at much larger than the page itself and I then need
to reduce it to about the original dimensions I created to begin with.

Use a program like IrFanview to resize and optimize them BEFORE you IMPORT
them into FP.
Keep the aspect ratio the same when you resize.

It may help if we knew your workflow and if we could see the image...is it
online somewhere?

In addition to Rob's comments, when resizing use pixels (px) for the
measurements, and set the dpi to 92.

Well, I'm trying to get it on line, but it won't display. That is another
problem I'm having with it. I create it in Corel Draw at 1400dpi resolution.
It is a little bigger than 5in x 2in (7486p x 3663p).
I then export it to JPEG &/or GIF. I can see it in FrontPage and aside from
7486p x 3663p taking up well more than twice the viewable area of my screen &
needing to re-size it down again, it looks good.
Once I go to preview it in the browser though the whole thing vanishes and
leaves me a box where it is obvious "something" goes.
I am struggling with both of these problems at the same time. Can I attach
my logo file here for you to see?

Where are you exporting it? How are you resizing it? Everything needs to be
done outside of FP. The, File | Import the image into your web *before*
insereting it on a page and saving.

You keep starting new threads and changing the subject line of current ones.
Stay with one thread....all you're doing is confusing people.

Open the Corel Draw one and Resize it in Corel Draw to the px size you want on the web site
- if Corel Draw has the option, also change the resolution to 96 dpi
- then export it from Corel Draw as a JPG at the correct size in px

* make sure it's in RGB colorspace NOT CMYK
* make sure you keep the ASPECT RATIO the same as original &/or crop it
then resize it - may need a calculator :)
* if it's a graphic with limited colors and no gradients you can use a gif
* if it's a photo or photo-like you jpg or png

really help if we can see what you are talking about.

OK, This kind of looks like it might have solved my jagged edge problem, but
I can't be sure. One issue I'm still having is that the Logo itself is
white. So I put it onto a black background to export to jpg and then import
into FP. But now when I try to use the transparency tool the colored
background is all dithered but still there instead of completely transparent.
What should I do to make the white logo show up, but no background? Once I
can get it completely transparent, then maybe I can tell if the edges are
cleaned up for sure.

S

Stefan B Rusynko

That's a graphics creation editing problem you can't get around
- transparent gif's at small sizes will always dither the lines if they ate not horizontal/vertical

Create the logo w/ black background in Corel
