Why do the pictures in my Word doc not refresh upon opening the doc?

Greetings,

In my Word documents, I typically have graphics (JPGs and the like) embedded in the file inline with the text. However, when I open the
document in Word usually the pictures are not visible.

If I single-click on the picture, the outline shows up (so the picture is there) but no picture, at least at first (a few moments later, the
picture appears). Sometimes, if I scroll the picture off-screen (by going to another page), then back, the picture will show up. Minimizing
the Word window, then restoring it also works. So I'm led to believe the picture is not refreshing for some reason.

So what's going on here? Is this a Word issue, or a graphics card issue?

TIA,
-Mark

Try reducing or turning off hardware acceleration in Start | Control
Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshoot. If this fixes the
problem, then you might want to check the website of the manufacturer of
your video card/graphics adapter to see if there is an updated driver
available.
