Why do the same messages keep reloading every time I check my e-ma

Everytime I check my e-mail now I keep getting the same messages reloaded,
beginning from about 3 days ago. Of course, each time new messages at the
end are included and so I'm now over 100 messages that load. One of them has
a long video attachment and since I am on dial-up this is taking a very long
time to load. How do I make sure that only new messages are loaded each time
I check my e-mail? (I've tried blocking the message with the long
attachment, and have also deleted it from the trash each time it gets loaded.)
