Why do updates redirect my documents?

Rachel

After updates are installed, the updates change the direction of My
Documents. We currently have them directed to our server, but after updates
have been completed it restores it back to the hard drive. I am curious and
don't want to pay the $35 to send an email to support. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

Hi Rachel,

What update to what program and how are you redirecting My documents?

Hi Bob,

Just installing regular Microsoft updates causes the redirection of My
Documents. We have My Documents pointed to our server instead of the hard
drive. We have noticed that after updates are administered, it redirects My
Documents back to the C Drive. Any suggestions or explanations? Any help
would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I've not seen this occur. Without more details of an example with a specific update (is it a Windows, Office or Security one, etc)
the version of Office and Windows, how you're doing the redirection of the My Documents folder and the method you're using for
updating it's difficult to know what to suggest.

Do you have a test machine where you can run an update that has caused this and then review the verbose log file you can setup with
this article
