Why does a read-write file on floppy, become a readonly on disc.

Confused

Using Office 2003, saving information onto a CD, which I previously
downloaded off a floppy disc and used in my data drive. Each time I try to
use the CD which I saved, it comes up as read only. I have tried all the help
I can off microsoft assistance without success. The properties on my computer
are not set for read-only, thats the first thing I checked. There are no
signatures or any passwords attached to the files. Help!!! Basically, all I
want to do is stop using the floppy and use the CD instead, so I can use my
laptop as it does not have a floppy drive. All help will be appreciated,
thanks.

I know what you are going through. I took a Publisher document which I
burned on a CD to Staples to have printed. He could not open it in publisher
and make any changes. The person had to copy it to a floppy in order to make
changes. He explained to me that Publisher makes a temporary file in order
to make changes and is unable to save it to the CD in the process. This
makes sense when you are questioned whether you want to save changes you
made or not. There must be a copy before it overwrites the original
document when you save the document.

If this is the case, maybe having something like InCD where you format the
CD to be used like a floppy would be the answer. However the drawback is
that you must have InCD on the computer in order to use the InCD formatted
disk.

I hope that someone more knowledgeable will comment on this and make sure I
have this right.

CDs are read only. If you have a file on a CD and you want to make changes,
copy it to your hard drive, remove the read-only tick mark on its property
page and then you can edit it.
