Why does background change page view?

Jason Clark

I got a template from USPS.com netposting for a postcard and I want to
change the color of the background/postcard.

If I choose background fill on the tool bar it changes the view from
print view to web layout, why does it do this and not stay on print
view?

I can't also change the color of the fill for the background

Because "background" applies only to Web pages; you can't use this feature
for print documents. To create a background for a printed page, you must
create a "watermark." You don't mention what version of Word you have, and
the process differs between versions, but Word's Help under "Create a
watermark" is good for all versions.

Suazanne,

I have word 2000.

All I seem to able to do is Insert a graphic — a drawing object such
as an AutoShape, clip art, WordArt, or picture — or insert a text box.

How do I just add a colored background?

Thanks

Jason

You'll need to draw a large rectangle AutoShape to cover the entire page.
Give it the desired fill. Note that it will not print to the edge of the
page, though. Print Preview will give you an idea of how much will print.
