Why does Excel crash when I back a file up to a CD

Each time I copy an Excel file to CD for backup, Excel crashes. Then the HD
file is also corrupted and has to be recovered, losing all formatting. Please
HELP! The CD copy appears to be fine on another computer, but neither can be
opened on the original computer.
