Why does Excel.exe generate errors when I try to download templat.

When I try to download a template from the Microsoft website into Excel, I
get the error message:

Excel.exe has generated errors and will close. Then it closes. I have
tried reloading Office to try and correct this, but have had no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.
