Why does file name say [filename].published when file is only imported?

Can anyone shed some light on why does a file that has only been
imported say [filename].published when the publishing step has not yet
been completed?

The file extension for files saved in the Project Server database is
..published. Since you see .published, that means you have successfully
imported your project into the Project Server database. The file extension
has nothing to do with whether you have actaully published the project or
not. Confusing? I think so, too!
