Why does frontpage not completely update my dwt files?

D

When saving changes to my .dwt file frontpage does not completely update all
the files attached to this web template. Every time it will stop at 195 pages
without displaying an error or telling me I did something wrong.
This folder contains a large number of pages, all attached to the same .dwt
file. Is there an unspoken limit?

No limit
I have used it to update 1200 pages from 1 DWT

Double check your not using another dwt - perhaps a previous test one with
a similar name but in a different folder I've done that before now....

what is your site?
name a few pages that don't get updated
and a few that do.

the only one used in this site. Currently more than 1500 files attached,
would really like to get a fix. Thanks

Well I think your problem is .. is that you simply have not attached some of
the pages ... for instance your homepage is not attached....

this is what your going to see on a page that is attached

<html>

<!-- #BeginTemplate "index.dwt" -->

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<!-- #BeginEditable "doctitle" -->
<title>Stirrers/Piks Index</title>

<!-- #EndEditable -->

I would like to point out that you should have your meta tags for
description and keywords to protect them on each page you need to encase
them in editable regions ..

You might like to read my free ebook on dwts
http://frontpage-ebooks.com/dwt-ebook.htm

You also need a doctype so you can validate the pages.

You have not added a dwt to this page
http://www.sala-group.com/PrivacyPolicy.html .... I had to check through
quite a few pages to find another one .. since you did not provide me with a
list...

another one is http://www.sala-group.com/CardSecurity.html

The fact is you simply have not attached them....

Simply cut the content from an affected page.
attach the dwt
paste the content back

However I would first update your dwt ...

include doctype
include meta tags (see the ebook)
make simple css sheet and apply to all pages which will configure your
background .. to me it's green not the white you think it is.

You need to attach the dwt to the privacy policy page anyway as it's totally
without navigation since this page is of huge importance to a site that
sells something that needs doing ASAP you also need to make a much better
privacy policy page.

While your updating your dwt i'd add text links so searches can follow the
links within the site and the site is accessibility friendly ... it would be
nice to have a much better menu system as well .. currently you don't really
know what pages are on the site because you don't have a site map (essential
for seo) and your menus are laborious because I have to click click click
back and forth I can't see links to other sections in each category .. using
include pages for the menus with the dwt would solve that problem.... you
have a lot of scripting for the menus .. you should see if that could go
into an external script sheet.

ALL the inner page links on these pages are 404 (you need a custom one)

http://www.sala-dfsp.com/PlasticUtensils.htm

http://www.sala-dfsp.com/Placemats.htm
http://www.sala-dfsp.com/NapkinRings.htm
http://www.sala-dfsp.com/Stirrers.htm

You need to check your paths or that the pages have been uploaded.. use your
broken hyperlinks reports to check this out.
see http://accessfp.net/reports-view-one.htm for more info...

Sorry this turned into more of a critique ... hope it's useful... your basic
problem is not every page is attached and some pages are not on the server.

Thanks Tina: a number of the pages you quote are not in the same web site.
Since I am just getting started with fontpage I have not done anything with
those as of yet. Tho all the pages within the subdirectorys do have the
attached DWT I chose to not attach it to the home page as I do not want the
home page to allways reflect subsequent content.

The tabs across the top of all pages are part of the template so that from
any page you can cross to another section without back tracking. Thanks for
the information on the e-books I will look into these, they may be of some
assistance in improving my site.

I believe the problem we have been discussing may be as simple as my
frontpage installation being corrupted. It has been giving me several non
responsive screens where I have to restart the PC to get it moving.

Your urls are very similar and I did not notice the changes .. which I
expect was the effect you were after ..

however when requesting help like this .. not only would it have been a good
idea to provide pages within the site you wanted looking at that were not
updating ..

mentioning your menu layout crossed two (more?) sites would have been good
to.

I'm afraid I don't chase clients nor do I actively seek them, however I'm
sure there are plenty on the ng willing to give you their contract details
<smiles>

good luck
