Why does Frontpage suddenly shuts down when I insert images?

Ever so often when I am trying to insert images into a webpage within
Frontpage, Frontpage completely shuts down. No warning or error messages are
given.

I have gotten around this before by defragmenting my hard drive.
Unfrotunately, this is now failing. At present, I cannot even go into the
images folder associated with a web. As soon as I click on the images
folder, while inserting, Frontpage suddenly shuts down ...

Can you do "File" "Open" and browse to the folder?

If it still crashes, you have a corrupted header in one of the files.
Usually that's a misformed tag, but could be something as simple as unusual
punctuation.

(FP "looks" at all the metadata of the files to create the icons in the
dialogue box. If that data is corrupted, the box can cause a program
crash.)

Be sure to remove all cached data on your computer, Temporary Internet Files
folder, FrontPageTmpDIR folder, and delete all "web" files (search the drive
with "*.web" in the search box for your computer, delete all files that show
up. FP re-creates them as needed.) That may fix the problem.

If not, you could have a corrupted HTML header in one of the files itself.
Finding it, is a matter of getting lucky, or using some sort of systematic
method like making a copy of the web, then deleting half the files, seeing
if it crashes, and further trimming or noting crashing doesn't happen and
going back again, this time deleting the other half...
