Why Does it Print Off-Centre?

A

I'm making up an Award Certificate. I started with one with a border and
now that's got lost. I went through a time when it said that I've changed the
thing and did I want to keep it in my own group of templates - something
after that style - i said 'yes' and supposedly it saved it but I can't find
it again.

And I see it on the screen nicely centred on the page, of course, but when
it prints out it prints towards the bottom of the paper - and there's curious
little marks in each corner - like a right angle with a second parallel line
to each limb a couple of mm away.

How to get it to print in the centre?
How to get rid of the little marks?

The default paper size seems to be letter - I think that must be the USA
standard - no use here in Australia, we use A4 by default. How to set the
default to A4?

What you are seeing are crop marks.

Usually the default paper size is selected from your printer settings.

Are you trying to use the PaperDirect templates? They will not print. The
templates use special paper that is bought from www.paperdirect.com

Crop marks can be turned off in the print dialogue, advanced print settings
button, Page Settings tab.

Determine your printer's margin limitations.

Reverse the order. The "little marks" are crop marks, designed to show
you where to trim the paper to get the correct final size. This
indicates that your paper size isn't the same as the page size you've
designed for. Hence what is centered on the page on screen won't be
centered on the paper.

Hence to fix both issues, adjust your page and/or paper size such that
the sizes match.
