Why does Microsoft Word fail to start intermittently?

At times, I open Word or a document and the it fails to start. When it closes
when I was attempting to open a file, the error message states that the files
does not exist but it does. I have Vista and this is the first time I have
been experiencing this and I have had Office for a while.

Run the Diagnose utility under Word Options.

I will try your idea but when I just attempted to open Word, it failed again.
I am wondering if anyone has had issue with the fingerprint authentication.
Could this be causing an issue with local authentication that in turn would
cause Word to not open. I got an errror message from that utility when I
first booted up. If I log in by typing my password, it does not seem to be a
problem.
