Why does my machine lockup when saving to a disk?

AFter installing the updates for Word 2000 when I try to save changed
to a floppy disk the program stops responding and the machine locks up.

This is actually a result of a recent Windows update, I think, but it is
really saving you from the consequences of your actions, since it is a BAD
IDEA ever to save directly to a floppy from Word.

I don't, but I am a technician where many people I work with
use templates and they work from their disk. I have told
them and told them but that is not the issue. The issue is that
they should be able to save to their disk once they have made changes.
I am just trying to find a fix to the problem as I have several machines
that are doing this.

Well, they are no longer able to do this, so they will have to get into the
habit of saving to the HD and copying to the floppy.

That still doesn't give me a fix for correcting the software issue now does it.
I was looking for help for a problem not smart a remarks.....................

How about the simple statement that if they regularly save their work to a
floppy directly from Word they will lose their work probably when it is
least convenient for them. Probably, there will be nothing you can do to
help them when this happens. (Note, I did not say "if" this happens, but
"when.")

The only fix AFAIK is to roll Windows back to a restore point before the
update was installed. This is what I intended to convey.
