Why does my Microsoft Word program freeze up?

When I start my Microsoft Word 2003 program, a message pops up:

Word failed to start correctly last time. Starting Word in Safe Mode will
help you correct or isolate a startup program in order to successfully start
the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode. Do you want
to start Word on Safe Mode?

Can anyone help me fix this problem for me? I will be very greatful...thank
you!!
