Why does my mouse not release a range of cells when selected?

When I click a cell in the worksheet, my mouse will not release the
selection. It just continues to select a range of cells. I have the close
Excel via Task Manager.

I don't have an answer but I have exactly the same problem. It is obviously
a common problem. I have also posted this issue.
