Hello all,
First of all I can't say how much help I've gotten just from reading
these forums over a year. Incredible wealth of information here. But
I've had this problem for a while and I can't seem to get my head
around it. I'm not so much looking for a solution but insight here.
I've been trying to find a workaround for importing mixed number/text
data for some time now--the problem being that access converts some of
my numbers into exponentials, losing some data along the way. I'm
familiar with some of the workarounds and the simplest solution--
keeping the data in text format--turns out to be the hardest with my
team, but regardless I've solved the problem with help from this
forum so no big deal. But I'm still confused by something.
I've noticed that when I have the actual spreadsheet that holds my
mixed number and text data open in excel when I import it in access, I
don't encounter the normal exponential issue. I have the spreadsheet
imported via macro, and I clear the table i'm importing to beforehand,
keeping the headers and formats (all text). So if I run the macro in
access first thing in the morning, my imported data has the
exponential issue. If I open my excel spreadsheet with the data in it
first (and keep it open during the import), I don't have the issue.
How could this be???
