Why does my timer icon keep flashing every 4-5 seconds?

My egg timer icon flashes all the time (regularly every 4-5 seconds) while I
am using my computer. It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the
machine but it is so irritating. Can anyone suggest how I can stop it?

Uninstall the egg timer or post to a more appropriate group.

I appreciate the response but I do not understand your reply. The egg timer
I refer to is the standard timer icon that appears on the screen whenever the
computer executes a command. It appears that my computer is trying to do
something every few seconds and failing. I think your response refers to a
piece of software called Egg Timer. Thanks again.

Then you must mean the cursor that turns from an arrow to an animated
egg-timer, correct? Use Task Manager to see what is going on - sort the
display by CPU usage. If you have a desktop search installed, it could be
indexing.

Thank you - yes, I should have said cursor. I looked at Task Manager as you
suggested and I now see that my 2 internet security programs (Trend PC-cillin
and Software Doctor) are running .exe files every few seconds. The main
offending file seems to be TMAS_OL.exe (Trend Micro Anti Spam - Outlook) as
the problem only occurs when I have Outlook open. I will modify the settings
and see if the problem resolves itself. My thanks again.

At the suggestion of Trend Micro, I deactivated the AntiSpam Toolbar that
comes with their PC-cillin software and this has indeed stopped the flashing
cursor. Thanks again.

Further, if you want to avoid problems with Outlook, remove the AV integration with Outlook. It is redundant, causes send/receive problems, multiple received mail on your end and your recipients, etc.
