Why does my video in power point just play a blank screen?

I'm trying to play video files in my power point presentation. The files
play fine in windows media player. When I insert a move file into my power
point presentation, it shows the still picture but when I ask it to play the
movie I just get a blank screen. I can't figure out the problem.

I'm using power point 2003

As Austin points out you probably have a codec issue but I have run into an
issue with various MPG files on one of my computers and also on a few
business computers. They just would not run in a PPT presentation but would
run just fine as you found in WMPlayer. I found that if I converted them
into a WMV file they play perfectly in a PPT presentation on any computer I
put them on. Google for a free video converter from your file type to WMV.

A blank screen is in many cases a path length issue. Are your presentation
and video in the same folder? If so, move them both to C:\test. If they play
there, keep them in a folder with a very short path name (less than 128
characters).

Check your machine. You may have to use a F key to divert power from
screen to your projector if your using one.
