Why does Office 2003 open so much slower than Office '98?

I just upgraded from Ofiice '98 to 2003 and while I love '03 features it
seems to take forever to open up when I want it. '98 was almost instantaneous
whereas with 2003 it seems like I'm staring at either a blank screen or an
hourglass for 15-30 seconds sometimes. Is this typical? My computer is pretty
fast and like I said, '98 wasn't a problem...

Office 98 is a Mac version, and Office 2003 is a Windows version.
Not really a valid comparison.
