Why does Office 2003 Search Inbox, Sent Items from old to new now

Why does Office 2003 Search Inbox, Sent Items from old to new now instead of
new to old as in prior version.
Is there a way to change so searches new to old? That's much more useful.
Why do they continually make "Improvements" that aren't?
