Why does office keep trying to reinstall itself?

Hi guys

Got a problem with office 2007 basic.
It was pre-installed on a machine I bought. Opened Outlook for the first
time, came back with message ''Configure Microsoft Office 2007' and then it
started to set itself up. Ok I thought, this is normal for a Dell
pre-installed version, but once the setup complete and I tried to open
Outlook (or Word) again, the 'Configure Microsoft Office 2007' setup started
to run again..... but this time it took ages to complete.
It keeps doing this whenever I open Outlook or Word (Excel is fine), and if
I cancel the install is comes back with an error along the lines of 'The Open
XML file NormalEmail cannot be opened'. I did a bit of research on this error
and apparently removing this file solves the issue, but I still have the
problem.

Any ideas? Dell have basically fobbed me off saying I should format the PC!

Hi Andy298

It really strange that this happens only with word and outlook .Well one
thing for sure you need,nt format your computer because your operating system
is working fine . Try this step and see if it works :

Step 1

start->run->msiexec /unregister then click ok

After step 1 follow step 2

Step 2

start->run->msiexec /regserver

Try opening outlook or word and see if you get the configuring office 2007
message . This step should generally do the trick .

Thanks and regards

I have a similar problem. I installed Office 2007. Outlook and Excel work
fine. But when I open Word, I have to wait while Office configures Word. I
tried the msiexec below, but it did not make a difference. My problem seems
to be related to the fact that I have Word from Office XP still on the
machine. If I use Word 2007, and then use the old Word, it runs its
installer. If I then go back to Word 2007, that installer runs again. The
installers are only avoided if I just use one version of Word. However, I
would like to be able to keep both, but avoid the installers every time I go
back and forth. Can anyone help?

I'm really disappointed with microsoft products. This is happening to me not
just with office but also with itunes... I hope they come up quickly with a
solution... if not i'm honestly considering to move a different platform.
Waiting 5 min every time i open a word document is just unacceptable

iTunes is from Apple, so what platform are you planning on moving to,
Etch-a-sketch?

Itunes doesn't work because is running on vista Dear Bob if you are not
going to cooperate with this forums please keep quiet. I spent $1000 dollars
between vista and office and at the end i'm not using any of them... windows
really is doing things really awful

And you are posting in this user to user forum for MS Office
applications because? iTunes has NADA to do with MS Office. If you have
problems with iTunes there is an Apple forum you can post to. If the
problem is Vista, there is a Vista group you can post to. Perhaps a
little reseach BEFORE you "dropped" one large would have been a better
idea. If all you are going to do is whine about your poor judgement,
post elsewhere. If you actually want help with Office, try starting your
own thread with the problem you are having with the Office applications.
Otherwise you are the the one who should keep quiet, "Dear libardo".

This fix took care of my problem as well

I also have this problem, but it is a little different. I have a multi-user
XP Pro system with Office 2007 Pro. The problem is only with Word, and not
with Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, or Access, and it is only for my wife. For
me Word opens fine. I have administrator privelige and she is a power user.
I tried giving her the admin privilege and it did not resolve the problem. I
also tried repairing the installation from the CD, and that did not resolve
the problem.
