why does office pro configure every time I launch an application

Just installed office pro 2007 over top of pro 2003. Every time I launch an
application, I get "please wait while windows configures office 2007" and I
have to wait several long minutes for the application to open. Researched
the issue using google. No suggestions have worked. Have tried using the
programfiles/....office12 [application].exe to open and still the same
result. Am ready to take one users advice and uninstall and sell the package
on EBAY, and reinstall my 2003 which has worked fine for me for about 4
years! Wondering why I upgraded. THis is nuts.
