Why does Outlook 2003 crash?

Every time I go to open an email in my Outlook 2003 Inbox ( or any other
folder in Outlook) the 'egg timer' comes up and remains there. The only way
out is to close Outlook, which means I cannot access or send any emails.
Control/Alt/Del tells me that Outlook is using 78,000k memory (though this
seems to be fluctuating rapidly between 48,000 and 78,000).
I have Windows XP home on a Fujitsu-Siemens computer with 2.93Ghz Pentium 4
and 512Mb RAM. There's 150Gb free on the hard drive.

Did your organization migrate from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003? If
so there is a known issue when mailboxes are moved to Ex2003 and client
is using Outlook 2003 which causes Outlook to crash.
