Why does Outlook 2003 have problems closing on a regular basis.

About 75% of times I start Outlook 2003, it tells me there were problems
closing the data file and it then performs a check which takes 2-3 minutes.
It's been doing it for as long as I've had 2003 installed. Never had this
happen with 2K. I've run the Inbox repair tool several times and it just
doesn't matter. Sometimes it finds problems, other times not, and Outlook
still has problems opening and closing it's own file. Any suggestions?

I rarely have that problem. But it is frustrating for me because it take 45
minutes to check a 12GB .pst file.

Are you allowing a little time for Outlook to close on its own each time? I
have seen where a user turns off the computer with Outlook open making
Windows close applications instead of the user directing the app to close
result in the behaviour you are citing.

If you close Outlook and wait a minute and then reopen it, you see the same
problem?

I might consider creating a new .pst file and copying the content over to
the new one (if needed) and see if that resolves it. I close Outlook 2003 a
dozen times a day over years and this is a rare issue.

You have a 12Gig PST? I know 2003 PSTs are less likely to
self-corrupt,
but isn't that a bit extreme?

Yeah, try creating a new PST and a new Outlook profile and see if that
fixes anything.
