why does outlook 2003 respond so slow on Vista?

I just received my new computer and put a copy of microsoft office 2003 on
it. For some reason, Microsoft Outlook runs extremely slow, taking several
seconds to do anything. Is there a way to repair this?

You can run Detect/Repair within OL
You could also start OL with the safe switch
If you migrated old data to the new installation you might run scanpst.exe
on the pst
