Why does Outlook 2007 (Vista) freeze every few seconds?

Every few seconds my Outlook freezes. I cannot type more than 10 words
without having to wait for 3-4 seconds. It does this between mouse clicks
and all other operations as well. It's just most irritating while typing
emails.
