Why does Outlook not start consistently?

Many times when I start Outlook (not using a shortcut), it says "not
responding". It takes a few End Tasks before it finally shuts down. The
problem seems to be getting worse. This happens most when I have restarted.
However, I have let the computer start up and sit idle for about 10 minutes
(to be sure it has loaded NIS and other programs) - the result is the same.

Hi Grant,
have you tried to run scanpst.exe?

if using word as your editor, open word first and see if a dialog comes up
about the template. if you are using email scanning in NIS, disable it, it
can cause problems with outlook and the delay could be to allow outlook to
check the pst for consistency.
