Why does outlook try to use the modem instead of my LAN?

When Outlook checks my IMAP account, it tries to use my modem, even though my
machine is connected to the LAN and the default connection is NOT set to the
modem. I know that there is a place to tell it to use the modem, and that is
set to LAN. It pops up a dialog saying that it cannot dial, I click cancel,
and then it fails over and uses my LAN. It does not seem to have this problem
with my POP account, just with the IMAP account. Anyone have any ideas or is
this just another bug?
