Why does Outlook2000 lock-up CPU after 7-8 seconds? Was OK before!

Outlook works properly for about 7-8 seconds and then quickly ramps up to 99%
of the CPU (I can watch it happen on Task Mgr) and becomes unresponsive. I
have let it run for a many hours to see if it was working on some unknown
process, but it did not help. Long before the problem started, and still
active, I run Norton AV, SpyBot D&E and Spyware Doctor running. None has
detected a problem with Outlook. Any suggestions out there??

Do you have an Exchange Server? What happens if you disable Norton AV as a
test?

Thanks for the suggestion Ben. I do not use an exchange server, and I have
shut down everything I normally have running. This sounds so much like a
virus, but nothing I use can find it. Strangely, I have also re-installed
all of Office including Outlook, gotten the necessary security updates, and
the problem persists.

Is it true that there are no computer problems in the Paradise of Hawaii??

Mahalo,

Laura

Hello,
This is the same problem I was having with Excel 2000. The Spyware Doctor
software was causing the problem. The first thing they told me was to make
sure that I had all of the service pack and other Windows updates. The last
email that they sent me goes as follows:

Laura, thank you for contacting PC Tools Support!

Thanks for your patience.

Thank you for the information. The problem that you are experiencing is a
known issue with Spyware Doctor. Our development team is currently aware of
this issue and are working on resolving the problem shortly.

Please go to the Spyware Doctor and run the 'Live Update' to ensure that you
have the latest versions of all of our tools.

There are a couple of things that you can try if you would like to try to
isolate the problem. Can you please turn the OnGuard feature ON and then turn
all of the individual tools to OFF. Can you please then turn all of the Tools
back ON one at a time to see if you can isolate the problem.

======================

Please be assured our Development Team are investigating this error and
working hard at providing timely resolution.

Please make sure you stay up to date with the latest Live Updates so that
your issues will be resolved as soon as we have made a fix available via our
live update.

To check for the latest Update, please click on the 'Live Update' button at
the top right hand corner.

Please reply to this email if you have any further problems.

Kind Regards,

I found that the cpu hog was the startup protector on the Onguard monitor.
I hope this helps.
