why does spooler stop when printing from word to a novell network.

When we are printing to an HP 6040 color on the PCL drivers the spooler blows
up and closes word. I can remember a similer problem in office 97 pro but
can't remember the fix. can anyone help me.

Sounds like a familiar Novell server problem. Have you checked with Novell
for a patch?

I would like to blame it on Novell but we are installing it from a windows
2003 print server over a novell network.

Does it only happen with the PCL driver? Have you tried HP for a solution?
We certainly support thousands of user with HP networked printers without
problem. But all are on Microsoft Networks.

We tried to search through Nocell and worked with HP on this problem. The
only specific driver that HP wrote for this printer is the PCL 6 Driver and
They recomend the Universal Print Driver none of which work with any of our
software. HP had me reinstall the firmware about 3 times and clear the
printer settings then the serviceman came in and replaced just about every
part in the printer. The Universal driver still does not work and they
suggested we use a driver from another color printer, it works but will not
configure the 5 trays that we have on the printer, I think the driver was
from the 4550 color printer.
