Why does the Office 2003 icon not appear in the notification area.

When I first installed Office 2003 (professional edition), the Office icon
would appear in the notification area of the taskbar whenever I was using
Word or Excel. But now it doesn't appear anymore. How can I get the Office
icon to appear again?
