Why does WinWord from Office 2003 refuse cut and paste text?

I frequently highlight text from a webpage; open Word; and click paste. Then,
nothing happens! I must then cntl-alt-del for "task master" and "end task"
to get any applications to work again. Never had this problem until I
installed XP Professional and Office 2003. Any help appreciated.

Some Add-Ins, especially that for Microsoft Works, dump the clipboard upon
opening Word. This isn't built into Word.
