Perhaps it's because Word wasn't installed correctly? We really need
the full error message in order to help you out.

When I try to open Word 2002, a Window instraller box appears on the screne then a setup message box pops up on top of that with the message "This MSI must be launched through setup." If you click on the setup box three times, which has an "OK" button, Word will start, followed by the same Window installer box and the same setup box. After you click the setup box three more times, Word will finaly open. If the Window installer box is clicked first, which has a message of "Preparing to install" and a cancel button, the box canges to a "Norton Antivirus 2005" box. Everything locks up until you go back to the setup message box and click it the "three" times. Word 2002 will eventually open, but it is a long process. I have gone to >start>run>winword.exe /a which will open Word, but in its original setup condition (no option settings). I have deleted Norton from the Hard drive, but in the reg. there are still some Symantec keys wich will not delete.

Since the issue doesn't occur when you start Word using the /a switch
then the problem isn't in the Word installation. Check your
Office\Startup folder and Word Startup folders for files. It sounds
like there is an add-in either attempting to install something or you
may have a *.msi file in one of the folders.

The location of the Office\Startup folder can be found in the Office
installation path and the location of the Word Startup folder can be
found in Word by going to Tools/Options/File Locations.
