Why does Word 2007 keep corrupting "Data Key"?

2007 up-to-date

About once a week, I need to delete (via Regedit) the Data Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

I never had to do this with 2003.

Is there another issue? (Sounds like a Word 2007 bug to be)

I agree that occurrence of corrupt Data Key does seem far, far more
prevalent than in any previous version, a reason for its vulnerability is
not established. Automatic updates running when Word has been left open in
the user's absence seems to be one of the causes; but that seems more a
symptom of the vulnerability than the cause.

Although there is plenty of evidence from postings in the newsgroup, I not
witnessed this happen. If we find out, we will be sure to let everyone know.

Terry, I just knew that there is a programmatic issue. It is not that big a deal but frustrating.
At least I know how to fix it.

My point was just to ID something that needs to be fixed.

Thanks

Tony,

The symptom was/is double-clicking a document in Explorer causes Word to open but not the document.

After "surgery" Word rebuilds the Data Key and all is OK ... for a while ... then the problem
loops.

I have never experienced this in over two years of using Word 2007. That is
not to say that Word 2007 does not do, but it must be triggered by something
in your environment, or way of working, that differs from mine.

If you have to do this once a week or so, that is often enough to make it
worth the effort of trying to note any common factors you can remember prior
to having to do it. You are in a better position than anybody to attempt to
diagnose this.

Possibly, when all is working, export the registry key and save somewhere.
When the problem recurs, export the registry again before deleting it. Then
try comparing the two keys for differences which may give a clue to what may
be causing they problem.
