Why does word keep pausing?

Im using Microsoft Office, the student edition. Recently word has been
pausing for about a second roughly every 10 seconds, as if it was saving or
loading something. Ive had a search through all the options but nothing Ive
found has fixed it yet, and its really irritating. Is this a bug or a virus?
Or just some option I've yet to find?
