Why does word keep starting in Safe Mode

for some reason, my word keeps starting in Safe Mode, i
haven't installed anything new on the computer, so it
makes very little sense to me, i tried routing out my
office CD to re-install it, but i can't find it anywhere,
all i can find are my service packs, which have out of
date updates on them, i tried going to the Microsoft
website for help, but to no avail, i downloaded all
applicable updates, but still nothing.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
