Why does Word merge add space before name on address line?

When I set up a mail merge of any kind using excel as the source, Word
automatically adds one space before the name in the address field. How can I
keep this from happening?

Don't use the Address Block. Insert the mergefields that you want to use in
the configuration that YOU want them.
