Why does Word, Outlook, freeze when I try to open a folder?

When I am using Word (2002, Office XP PRO), it will open Word documents in My
Documents, but if I try to open another folder I have created in My
documents, to access a Word file there, Word freezes, and I get a not
responding message when I open the Windows Task Manager. The same thing
happens if I want to attach a document to an email in Microsoft Outlook.
Also, if I right-click a document to send it to a memory stick, that freezes
too, although it will let me copy the document and then paste it to the
memory stick. I have the latest Office updates, have done virus and spyware
checks, but no luck. Any ideas, or do I have to re-instal Office?

Yes, thank you, that seems to have solved the problem. Rather than alter the
Registry, as Microsoft support suggest, I just uninstalled Hewlett-Packard's
Share-to-Web software, which I have never used anyway.

I am having this same problem too. I performed the Resolution steps on the
link listed below, but it my computer still locks up when I try to open
files. Actually, I get the pop-up box, but it locks up when I try to open a
subfolder. I am running Windows 2000 Professional if that makes a difference.

I suggest you try what I did. Find out what software is conflicting (in my
case HP Share to Web, a very old version). If you can do without it, uninstal
it, then clean the registry with something like TweakNow RegCleaner (I also
defragmented and rebooted). See if it will work. If you really need the
software, try re-installing it. Sometimes un and re-installing solves the
problem. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for your input. While on hold for Tech Support, I came here
and searched questions. I was hesitant to edit my registry as suggested when
I saw your posting and decided to try that route first. Seemed to have done
the trick.

Thanks!
