Why does Word XP try to access the Internet?

I hope I'm posting in the right forum, if not please don't hesitate to
redirect me to the correct forum.

I have Word XP (not my primary word processor). It seems whenever I open
Word, winword.exe tries to access the internet; I am aware of this because I
have ZoneAlarm as my software firewall, and a message pops up asking me if I
want to permit MS Word to access the internet.

Any idea why I'm getting this request from MS Word XP every time I open the
program? Ray
