Why doesn't a sound play when I receive a new message?

Hi:

For the first couple of days, I got my usual sound notification when I
received a new email message, but now - nothing. I checked my alerts
configuration in Vista, and it turns out that my alert for a new message is
definitely enabled. My other desktop sounds work fine, and my speakers work
have no issues, and my volume is way up. Is there something I need to do in
Outlook itself to get my sound notification back?

I spoke too soon, Brian! :( The notification sound works sometimes - but not
others. As far as I can tell, it works when I'm in Outlook and I manually hit
'send and receive', but it doesn't work when I launch Outlook and the program
automatically checks for and downloads messages. I'm stumped on this. Any
ideas?

I don't know of any condition that would elicit the behavior you describe.
Sorry. Perhaps someone else will have an idea.
